Marriage records [microform], 1922-1924.

Marriage records may include bonds, books, certificates, licenses, marriage registers or ministers' returns. Indexes to marriage records may be available. Marriage books document the legal union of man and woman as husband and wife. They may contain one or more of the following: marriage license, bond, register or minister's return, certificates and consents. Various counties may also have maintained these records as separate series. Marriage certificates signify that the marriage occurred. The certificate was completed by the minister or judge and then given to the marrying couple. Marriage registers or minister's returns were filed after the marriage was performed by either the minister or judge who performed the ceremony. It was to be sent to the county clerk where the marriage was performed within twelve months after the marriage occurred.

McCracken County, the seventy-eighth county formed in Kentucky, was created in 1825 from part of Hickman County. It is named for Virgil McCracken. Paducah is the county seat.
